About Splits
Splits builds software for sharing money. We provide secure contracts, intuitive interfaces, and reliable developer tools that make it easy to collaboratively receive and manage money on the internet.
Our mission is to help people take control of their earnings and our north star is to build the place where onchain producers manage their income (e.g. internet-native banking). This includes structuring revenue-sharing agreements with external parties (e.g. collaborative payment flows like Splits, Waterfalls), as well as managing that revenue once received (e.g. Teams, Swappers, Diversifiers).
Splits powers projects like Zora, Sound, Protocol Guild, Obol, Airswap, Songcamp, and more. The protocol launched in Feb 2022 and has distributed ~$100m to 80k people through 100k+ contracts (live analytics). We’re backed by a16z, A Capital, SV Angel, Scalar Capital, Ethereal Ventures, and angels like Jacob Horne (Zora), Jing Wang (Optimism), Sina Habibian (Into the Bytecode), Ryan Hoover (Product Hunt), David Lee (Samsung), and others. We’re a remote-friendly company with a presence in San Francisco.
Working at Splits
Why Splits?
Here are a few reasons why you might like working with us.
- You want responsibility and you crave shipping. We’re a small team and we know agility is our greatest strength. We each have our areas of ownership and excellence, but we all do a bit of everything—from programming to support to documentation to writing.
- You care more about impact than process. Our process is sometimes messy and ambiguous; there aren’t always neatly defined projects. We value high agency folks who can operate with autonomy to generate and complete impactful work.
- You take the long view. You are deeply inspired by the promise of internet-native property rights but turned off by the rampant speculation and get-rich-quick mentality that pervades the space. We believe we’re laying down fundamental economic piping for the onchain economy and we don’t have much overlap or interaction with the frothier and more speculative side of the market.
- You want to work closely with a tight-knit team on a deep problem. We are very collaborative and believe the most valuable relationships are the longest. We aim to retain early hires and help them grow into leaders as the company expands. We believe initial conditions matter, and placing the right people in the right seats at the table early on will result in a strong, cohesive leadership team that embodies our core values and vision.
- You value being good, radical candor, focus, excellence, extreme ownership, and renewal/play. Learn more here.
Why not Splits?
Here are a few reasons why we might not be the right fit for you.
- We’re scrappy and hardworking. We’re a small team and there just isn’t that much slack to go around today—no job is too small or unimportant for anyone. When something breaks, large amounts of money are often at stake and we strive to be responsive in addressing and fixing concerns. We do value renewal and encourage team members to take real time off during less critical periods.
- We disagree and commit. We will never design by committee. We openly debate and disagree often, but ultimately one DRI makes the final decisions on any given topic. We try to spread out decision making & responsibility as much as possible.
- We want people committed long-term. The average tenure in the Bay Area is 2-3 years. We believe the most valuable relationships are the longest and are seeking peers we hope will stay and grow into leadership positions with us over time. Our equity-heavy compensation philosophy reflects this.
- We believe deeply in the promise of internet-native property rights. We’re maniacally focused on providing the best possible UX, but we won’t sacrifice the core ownership principles that we believe differentiate the new internet from the old internet.
- We’re remote-first with a Bay Area presence. We’re building our culture around being remote, yet somehow we all ended up in the Bay Area. We meet 1 day / week in person, which you might find burdensome if in the Bay or feel left out of if elsewhere. When we do hire outside of the Bay, we will schedule periodic time in person (on- and off-sites).
