A number of folks have used Teams to receive capital from outside investors (VCs, angels, etc). While we intend to bring more of this “in house” over time, here’s what we’re seeing folks do to make this process easier.
Once you have your Treasury and other operating Accounts set up, you can create dedicated Accounts for each outside investor. Click the + button next to Accounts in the nav to create a new Account.
Decide on a naming pattern for each Account you’re going to create, that will make it easy to know who the Account is for. For example, “Jane Doe $10k”. This way, you know to give Jane Doe this Account’s address, and you can expect them to send their $10k investment.
This Account will just act as a pass-thru, so select an appropriately safe set of signers.
Once you have your Accounts set up, share each Account’s address with the respective outside investor. As funds start flowing in, you will be able to tell precisely which investors have contributed capital and which ones are still outstanding.
Once an investor has contributed capital, you can empty that Account’s balance by forwarding it to your Treasury. It may be helpful to add a memo for each of these transactions, so you can keep a record of the funds moving into your Treasury.
Once the Account is empty, click Settings in the top right and then scroll down to the Remove section and click Remove from app. This will “archive” the Account from your Team, preventing it from showing up in your list of Accounts.
